Tablets are a relatively new piece of technology, having only been introduced to the market in 2010. They are growing in popularity, however, because of their appeal to people who want to have access to the Internet but do not think that smartphones have large enough screens to accommodate their needs.

The following is a list of the top selling tablet PCs in 2011, as reported on Squidoo.com:

  1. Motorola Android Xoom: This is an Android device that comes preloaded with Honeycomb 3.1. There are dual cameras and it only weighs 1.25 pounds.
  2. Samsung Galaxy Tab: This Android device has an awesome battery life and can connect to WiFi spots.
  3. iPad 2: This is recognized as the most innovative tablet on the market. Although it is pricey, you won’t be missing any features that are on other tablets.
  4. iPad: This was the first tablet to enter the market, and is still a popular choice. It is a good buy since the iPad 2 is now out.
  5. Superpad: This tablet has a 10.2 inch screen and runs on the Android 2.1 OS.

One of the most overlooked means of getting the best out of a computer is for research and putting together “cutting edge” work that can make a real difference in our lives.

 

Computers have come a long way since they were first thought up in the nineteen forties. Then, they were little more than adding machines, then they became storage facilities with data stored for later retrieval, but you had to go to either the same computer or one linked to the mainframe to retrieve it!

 

With the advent of the internet that idea was done away with and we are now only just beginning to unlock the full potential of these machines!

 

Research done anywhere in the world can be stored on a server and accessed by someone on the other side of the globe merely minutes after it has been stored!

 

Search engines have played a key role in this, people can get onto a Search Engine with only an idea of what they want and within minutes they can access so much information that traditionally it would have taken a lifetime to find!

 

Each one of these has dramatically increased the speed at which knowledge is growing, and as a result it is dramatically improving how we use that knowledge!

 

The internet, and in particular the advent and development of search engines has changed the way that we run our lives. Their impact has gone well beyond just the way that business is done, they have changed life in the twenty first century. The challenge for us is to keep up with those changes.

If you’re shopping for a tablet PC, you may not be sure which one is actually the best choice. Needless to say, there are about as many operating systems out there as there are tablet PCs.

The top-selling tablet PCs come from Apple (the iPad), Research in Motion (the BlackBerry PlayBook), and HP (TouchPad). These are the top selling ones, and each of them has a different operating system (OS).
The iPad uses the iOS operating system. Basically, it’s the same OS that is used in desktop computers, but retooled for use in mobile devices such as tablet PCs. Its original design came from the Mac OS X system, so if you’re familiar with that particular product, then you know how the Apple iPad OS will work. If you like how Mac products work, then you will want to choose a tablet PC with this OS.
The BlackBerry PlayBook runs off of the BlackBerry Tablet OS, which is based on the QNX system. If this doesn’t ring a bell, maybe you’ve heard of the “kernel” OS. If you’re familiar with this phrase, then the QNX system is what is being referred to. The HP TouchPad uses webOS, which is another “kernel” OS. It is a Linux-based OS, so if you prefer this type, you can choose a TouchPad tablet PC.

New Server Features with Microsoft Exchange 2010

If you are like the average American, you take a mass of digital photographs every year.  Picasa is a program that is a free photo editing software by Google that allows you to organize your photos with ease, as well as offer other great benefits for photographers of all levels.

Picasa can be downloaded off of their website, currently only serviceable with Microsoft platforms. With the software, you can upload pictures, create albums, movies and other gifts, have organized picture storage, print, and more.

The features of Picasa are endless with this free software, which provides excellent tools and services that stay on your computer in software format, rather than uploading all of your pictures to external sources via the web.

Picasa is easy and fun to use. With facial recognition tools, the software starts to pick out a person’s face and stick all similar faces in a folder for you. You can then go into that person’s named folder and either highlight the photos that are that person, or if there was an error in the selection, let the program know and it will rescan the pictures and faces. This is great if you are trying to create an album for someone. The more that this features is used, the better the program becomes at deciphering individuals. The program does a pretty good job of distinguishing individuals through different age ranges.

This is a great software to play around with to see if it matches your needs.

A general screen shows the folders with dates or people on the left, on a side-bar and pictures on the right-hand side. This makes locating pictures easy, since you do not have to open each folder to locate a picture, but scroll through to locate which pictures or dates you are searching for.

Parents today have to know how to handle computer access and technology with their teenager. Technology is everywhere and oftentimes, teens are more adept at using it than their parents.

Keep computers in a public area, like a study or living room and out of bedrooms. This will help limit the amount of time they spend online late at night and help you to maintain some knowledge about what they’re doing online and what their computer hours are like. Many teens do spend a good deal of time using the computer for homework, but time on other sites, especially social networking sites that can be huge time-drains, should be watched. Similarly, keep phones at charging stations at night to prevent late night texting and maintain some control over your teens’ cell phone usage.

Talk About It

Be straightforward about your expectations regarding content and privacy in their online usage. Most teens will understand privacy concerns when they are laid out and understand what information can be shared in their online profiles, and what information is important to keep to yourself. This is a safety concern for every family and setting ground rules can help.

Be A Little Nosy

Asking questions is important, if you notice behaviors out of the ordinary, shifts in behavior using the computer or phone, or other indications something is up, talk to your teenager about it in a calm and collected manner. Confrontations don’t help, but questions can help to head off online bullying, unhealthy relationships, and questionable internet usage. The more honest and open you are about your expectations and rules, the more likely your teen will be open and honest with you about their activities.

Things to Consider When Using Web Sources

The internet has opened a world of resources for students and researchers. Information is more accessible than ever and can be attained without ever leaving the home computer. Still, this influx of information comes with risks and researchers need to take special care when using sources from the internet.

Know Where, and Where Not, to Look

Wikipedia is the common culprit behind unusable research information because it can be edited by anyone–leaving it vulnerable to misinformation. Still, it has uses. Go to Wikipedia if you have a new topic and you don’t know where to begin. Read through and then check out their sources listed at the bottom of the page, these will often be a great starting point. Common library searches such as LexisNexis and Google Academic can be helpful places to begin working. Some require a subscription, but library computers may allow you to use these resources without a personal account. Google Academic search can help you to pare down the fluff and find the real sources.

Get the Critical Information First

When you look at a new source, identify the author’s name, the year it was published, and the journal, study, or book it appeared in. Having this information first will allow you to make a decision about how relevent and accurate this information is likely to be. Always do this before reading a source and you will save yourself a lot of time. There’s nothing worse than reading 50 pages of a report before you realize that the up-to-date study was current in 1987.

Knowing how to judge research materials is extremely important when performing online research.

Have you ever wondered why the internet is the prime source for most people in great professions? The internet is an all-round solution for most people. It can act with multiple faces and give you most of the things that you need. Research and internet are closely related. The internet is a vast area with a lot of spaces for the storage of relevant data which would otherwise have been very difficult to find in the library where you would have to spend hours and days with the books to find information on the topics which are hard to find. This was highly inconvenient when you had to do the work within a short period.
With the internet you can get the search results within a time period less than a second. Also you get to know about the various ideas and concepts of the people from around the world.

Doing a research in the traditional way is highly difficult these days with most of the libraries disappearing from the face of the earth due to the difficulty of maintaining it with lack of customers. Not only that, people have access to information from all the old and new books on the internet which makes it a bit impractical to go to the library for the information that you require.

If you are doing a research it would be better to use the internet rather the library because even after hours or days of searching for the information you may not have sufficient data in your hands. With the internet you can easily get it. Both of them go hand in hand. Just choose the one that suits you.

An Internet Library

You might have been using the internet as a means of keeping in touch with your friends and family but how many of you have thought of it as a library? The internet is, as you all might be knowing or might have realized earlier, is a vast storage space with information on any kind of data possible which you usually can retrieve with the help of search engines.

The internet can be used for not only keeping in touch with all your buddies but also to do your work, complete assignments and read interesting articles on various topics. It is not unlike a library in which you can do all these things but it is much more convenient and easy than going to a library and pouring over books for a simple topic.

The internet is much convenient than the usual library for a number of reasons. The main one would perhaps be the time factor. This is something which everybody needs, time. With an internet connection you can get the information you want within a matter of seconds if not minutes. You don’t have to sit and pour over millions of books in the library simply for the sake of finding information on a topic.

The next reason would the easy locating of data. You can easily locate the data with the internet. With the physical books, you might get the relevant book but it might take ages to find information on the topic you want. On the internet you just have to type the phrase and the search engines would get you the matching results.

The data stored in the library can get damaged over the time but those in the internet can never have any sort of problems because they are stored on a digital database which can be difficult to destroy. Hence the data you might have stored would stay there for years and maybe even decades. The internet library could be very useful for children and other educational institutions. Just make use of it.
